Five steps to ensure IT strategy as an integral part of business strategy:

  • Recognize that IT strategy development is a continuous (dynamic) rather than a point-in-time event
  • Require that the IT strategy be prepared in business terms rather than technical term
  • Encourage the CIO to live and walk in the shoes of business units leader
  • Not sign off on the IT strategy unless it reach its portfolio
  • Make sure CIO fully understand how each major IT spend item advances the business strategy or takes care of particular tactical problem

Conclusion
“Company’s IT Strategy is an integral part of the overall business strategy rather than a planning afterthought.”
